The Canada/Germany coproduction is shooting at Cinespace until late March.

Production is underway in Toronto on the Netflix feature thriller Polar.

The Canada/Germany copro is shooting at Cinespace and is scheduled to wrap in late March. It’s produced by Munich, Germany-based Constantin Film and Bolt Pictures (helmed by U.K.-based producer Jeremy Bolt) in association with U.S.-based Dark Horse Entertainment.

The project tells the story of a top assassin who is settling into retirement until his former employer deems him a liability to the company. Soon, he finds himself back in the game and going head to head with a group of younger and faster killers who want to see him silenced.

Starring Mads Mikkelsen (Doctor Strange), Vanessa Hudgens (Spring Breakers), Katheryn Winnick (Vikings) and Matt Lucas (Alice In Wonderland), the film is set for release in 2019 on Netflix worldwide, excluding Canada, Germany, and China, where Constantin is handling distribution.

Producers on the film are Constantin Film’s Robert Kulzer (Resident Evil), Bolt (Resident Evil) and Toronto-based producer Hartley Gorenstein (Room). The screenplay is penned by Jayson Rothwell (Silent Night) and based on the Dark Horse action noir graphic novel Polar: Came From the Cold, by Victor Santos.
