CraveTV has picked up What Would Sal Do? from New Metric Media, the producers behind CraveTV’s first original, Letterkenny.
The eight-part, half-hour comedy follows a slacker who discovers he’s the second coming of Christ. The series will begin streaming on the SVOD service on Mar. 24.
What Would Sal Do? was originally set to air on Super Channel, but the deal fell apart when its parent company filed for creditor protection. As Playback reported in our Fall 2016 issue, Sal was later acquired for Bell Media’s pay channels HBO Canada and TMN.
Bell Media announced today that the series will now join Letterkenny on CraveTV, making it the third original on its slate. At its upfronts in June, Bell Media announced four-part series Russell Peters is the Indian Detective would also join the streamer as an exclusive original. A launch date for that series has yet to be confirmed.
What Would Sal Do? is created by executive producer and writer Andre De Angelis. It filmed in Sudbury, ON in the summer of 2015 and was directed Samir Rehem. The series stars Dylan Taylor (Rogue) as the titular Sal, Jennifer Dale (Street Legal) as his mom, Ryan McDonald (Fringe) as his best friend, and Scott Thompson (The Kids in the Hall) as a local priest.
The series is produced by Toronto’s New Metric Media, in association with DHX Media and with the participation of the Canadian Media Fund and Ontario and Federal Tax Credits.
