As it continues to bolster its acquired slate of factual content, Breakthrough Entertainment has picked up a pair of documentary series from Calgary-based Pyramid Productions.
The first, The Shocking Truth, is a series looking into real-life murders and paranormal activity. Each of the episodes focuses on how Hollywood turned these cases into screen adaptations.
Expedition Earth (shot in 4K), meanwhile, ventures into some of earth’s most remote locations to examine the behaviors of some of the planet’s most fascinating animals.
The deal, which was signed prior to the American Film Market, will see Breakthrough representing the titles internationally.
Breakthrough is having a busy end to the year, with the company signing a five-year worldwide licensing agreement with Anne of Green Gables Licensing Authority (jointly owned by the heirs of L.M. Montgomery and the Province of P.E.I.) allowing Breakthrough to license merchandise related to its Anne film franchise.
In addition, Breakthrough secured a number of international deals for the Aircraft Pictures-produced MOW Bruno and Boots: Go Jump in the Pool, as well as inking a seven-picture rights deal with Toronto-based distributor United Front Entertainment and signing on to produce a six-part docuseries for U.S. net Reelz.
The company also expanded its sales team, appointing veteran distribution exec Caroline Tyre as its senior director, international sales and acquisitions.
