The deal was executed under the company’s Bron Creative division, with Bron joining as both executive producer and co-financier. Bron Studios reorganized last fall under the Bron Media Corp umbrella; the Creative division combines the activities of its Studio division and frequent financial partner Creative Wealth Media Finance.

In January, it was announced that Bron was one of four prodcos attached to The Birth of a Nation, which was the subject of a bidding frenzy at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The feature was eventually bought by Fox Searchlight for a record $17.5 million.

Fences is produced by Paramount Pictures in association with Bron Creative and media asset holding company Macro. Founder and CEO of Bron Media Corp Aaron L. Gilbert will serve as executive producer alongside Eli Bush, Jason Cloth and Andy Pollack. The film is produced by Washington, Scott Rudin and Todd Black and will will go to camera this month in Pittsburgh.

The story centres on the life and relationships of a once-promising baseball player (played by Washington) who finds himself working as a garbage collector in Pittsburgh. The cast for the feature includes Washington, Viola Davis (The Help), Stephen Henderson (Lincoln), Russell Hornsby (Grimm), Mykelti Williamson (Forrest Gump), Jovan Adepo (The Leftovers).
