CBC drama Heartland has been greenlit for a 10th season.
The news was announced on the show’s official blog on CBC.ca, which indicated the upcoming season will include 18, one-hour episodes. A CBC spokesperson confirmed the renewal but declined to provide more details, saying only that a wider announcement about pickups and renewals will be released in the coming weeks. Back in October 2014, Heartland had already hit a record in its eighth season when CBC aired its 125th episode, making it the longest-running Canadian one-hour drama in Canadian television history.
The announcement marks the second 10th-season greenlight from CBC this week. During Sunday’s broadcast gala of the Canadian Screen Awards, Murdoch Mysteries star Yannick Bisson announced CBC was renewing the series while accepting his Fan’s Choice award. The pubcaster also announced on Wednesday it had greenlit 10-part drama The Council (working title), created by Montreal-born writer and showrunner René Balcer (Law & Order: Criminal Intent).
Heartland is produced by SEVEN/24 Films and Dynamo Films, in association with CBC. The series is executive produced by Heather Conkie, Tom Cox, Jordy Randall and Michael Weinberg. Jamie Paul Rock serves as producer on Heartland.
