Telefilm Canada has invested more than $8 million in 12 English-language films, including Jay Baruchel’s Goon: Last of the Enforcers and Erik Canuel’s Operation Insanity.

Goon: Last of the Enforcers received $2.1 million in financing, the most of any one film in this round of funding. The film is produced by No Trace Camping and Caramel Films, with Entertainment One distributing. Operation Insanity, the first project to backed by the Family Feature Production Fund, which is also supported by Corus, received $1.85 million in financing from Telefilm. Operation Insanity is produced by CCI Enterprises and will be distributed by Elevation Pictures.

Maudie, a majority coproduction with Ireland, received $1.5 million. The romance feature is directed by Aisling Walsh and produced by Small Shack Productions, Rink Rat Productions, Solo Productions and Parallel Film. Mongrel Media will distribute the film, which is currently slated for a 2016 release. Milton’s Secret, meanwhile, received $500,00 in funding. The drama is directed by Barnet Bain, produced by Buck Productions, Riverside Entertainment and Hulo FIlms, and will be distributed by Momentum Pictures.

Bruce McDonald’s nineteenseventysomething received $450,000, with Weirdos The Film attached to produce. Hunting Pignut picked up $400,000 in financing. Martine Blue writes and directs the film, with Pope Productions producing. The Mean Dreams, from Nathan Morlando, received $375,00 from Telefilm. The thriller is produced by Woods Entertainment, with Elevation Pictures attached to distribute.

Joey Klein’s The Other Half received $350,000. Attached to produced the drama are Motel Pictures and JoBro Productions, with Mongrel Media to distribute. Tyson Caron’s Lovesick landed $300,000 in financing from Telefilm. The romantic comedy is produced by Eagle Vision with Entertainment One on board as distributor. Jason James’ Entanglement, produced by Entanglement Pictures, received $275,000 in funding.

Finally, Jeremy Torrie’s Juliana and The Medicine Fish received $250,000 from the financier, with Hakan Sahin’s Loneliness of a Sewer Trucker picking up $175,000. Juliana and The Medicine Fish is produced by High Definition Pictures and will be distributed by Bandwidth Digital releasing, while Loneliness is produced by Zamata Films.

Of the 12 features supported, eight are considered lower-budget films. Three films hail from the Atlantic region, five from Ontario and four from the Western region.
