The Canadian Academy opens voting on audience choice final 10

Voting on the second round of the award, which will be presented at the Canadian Screen Awards, ends on May 5.

The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television (The Canadian Academy) has opened voting for the final 10 Canadian series as part of its 2025 Cogeco Fund Audience Choice Award, to be presented at the Canadian Screen Awards (CSA).

The first round of voting took place from April 14 to 21 with, as part of that initial selection process, The Canadian Academy choosing an original 10 series with large fanbases that had created buzz in the film and television industry and digital spaces.

If voters’ top series was not part of that original lineup, they were also able to write in additional series as long as they were produced in Canada with the majority of producers, performers, directors and writers being Canadian and had not won previous iterations of the award.

The final 10 series were revealed on Monday (April 28) and include seven that were part of the original lineup. Among those is OMNI Television’s Filipino sketch comedy Abroad (Longhope Media) Crave and APTN’s Indigenous-led dramedy Don’t Even (Pier 21 Films, Frantic Films Manitoba, Sekowan Media) CBC’s business pitching reality series Dragons’ Den and Citytv’s police procedural Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent (Lark Productions, Cameron Pictures).

Crave’s comedic docuseries Made for TV with Boman Martinez-Reid (Alibi Entertainment); its comedy The Office Movers (Counterfeit Pictures); and CBC’s procedural Wild Cards, produced by Blink49 Studios, Front Street Pictures and Piller/Segan in association with the CW for commissioning broadcaster CBC, round out those from the original 10.

The three new to the lineup are Hallmark’s time travel drama The Way Home (Neshama Entertainment), CBC’s period detective drama Murdoch Mysteries (Shaftesbury) and its family drama Heartland (Dynamo Films, SEVEN24 Films).

Voting on the second round ends on May 5 and will cut down the contenders to five. Following that, another voting period will run from May 12 to 19 bringing the contenders down to three. A final voting period will run from May 23 to 31 with the winner of the 2025 Cogeco Fund Audience Choice Award being announced on June 1 during the CSAs.

This year’s CSAs run from May 30 to June 1 and are hosted by comedian and actor Lisa Gilroy.
