Alibi Entertainment adds two VPs to executive team

The Toronto prodco has tapped Joanne Virgo to lead its factual and lifestyle slate, with Jeff Baker overseeing production.

Toronto-based Alibi Entertainment has expanded its executive team with two appointments.

The prodco behind Food Network Canada’s Carnival Eats announced Tuesday (June 27) that it has hired Joanne Virgo (pictured left) as VP, executive producer, and Jeff Baker (pictured right) as VP, production. Both have already begun their respective roles and report to president James Hyslop.

As VP, executive producer, Virgo will oversee the prodco’s factual and lifestyle slate. She previously served as series producer on the Alibi unscripted series Staying Inn: Hotel Julie, produced for Bell Media’s CTV Life Channel.

Baker’s new role will see him oversee all production at the company, including factual, lifestyle, drama and digital. Prior to joining Alibi, Baker served as head of production at McGillivray Entertainment Media, first joining as a line producer in 2017.

Hyslop tells Playback Daily that both Virgo and Baker will play a “critical part” in the prodco’s executive team “to further the strategic and long-term planning for Alibi.”

“I am so pleased to be leading the development and creative team at Alibi and building on the great brand and reputation for impactful TV,” said Virgo in a statement.

Heidi Schorn, Alibi’s former VP of development and executive producer of unscripted, recently departed the company to join Original Content Lab as VP of development.
