Nelvana and Lambur Productions’ drama series The Hardy Boys is set to solve its last mystery.
Corus Entertainment-owned Nelvana announced the Hulu and YTV series was greenlit for a third and final season on Wednesday (Oct. 12). The 8 x 60-minute series (pictured), based on the books by Franklin W. Dixon, started production in September and will wrap in mid-December. Filming takes place in several Ontario cities: Toronto, Hamilton, Stoney Creek, and Cambridge.
The Hardy Boys is produced by Lambur Productions and Nelvana, in association with Corus Entertainment. The executive producers are: Lambur Productions’ Joan Lambur, Suzanne Wilson and Madeleine Lambur; Corus and Nelvana’s Doug Murphy, Pam Westman and Athena Georgaklis; co-showrunner Chris Pozzebon (Blindspot, Schitt’s Creek), who is the head writer, and co-showrunner Jason Stone (Riverdale), who is the head director. Amanda Vaughan will serve as production executive for Corus.
The final season is slated to premiere on Hulu in the U.S., and on YTV and StackTV in Canada in 2023, “with more international networks to be announced,” according to a news release.
The Hardy Boys season three follows the two brothers and their friends as they try to piece together their great-grandfather’s long-lost map to uncover a powerful ancient relic.
Bailee Madison (Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin) will guest star on the final season, with the returning cast of Rohan Campbell (Halloween Ends), Alexander Elliot (Locke and Key), Keana Lyn (The Yard), Adam Swain (A Million Little Things), Cristian Perri (A Simple Favor), Riley O’Donnell (Big Top Academy), and Krista Nazaire (Before We Crash).
Pam Westman, president of Nelvana, said in a statement that the series “successfully engaged audiences around the world and garnered awards and critical acclaim.”
The first two seasons received two Canadian Screen Awards in April for Best Children’s or Youth Fiction Program or Series and Best Direction, Children’s or Youth for director Melanie Orr; a Directors Guild of Canada Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement for Family Series for Orr in October 2021; and a Daytime Emmy award nomination for Outstanding Young Adult Series in 2021, among others.
The Hardy Boys is available to stream on Hulu in the U.S., StackTV in Canada, and Disney+ in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, and Latin America. The series will soon be available on Disney+ in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
