Christina Wayne has departed her role as head of Canadian and Australian originals at Amazon Studios.
The exec is leaving the company to pursue other interests, Playback understands. The news was first reported by C21.
Wayne (pictured) has been with Amazon Studios since 2019 and has played a key role in the push into Canadian original content for Prime Video, which began with the revival of The Kids in the Hall and has continued with scripted series such as The Lake and Three Pines and unscripted series LOL: Last One Laughing Canada.
Prime Video’s Canadian content executive team expanded beginning in 2021 with the appointment of Brent Haynes as head of scripted originals, followed by Samantha De France as production executive, unscripted Canada, and Beth Illey as senior scripted development executive in 2022.
Haynes currently leads Canadian content development, Playback understands, and reports to Javiera Balmaceda, who is now head of local originals for Latin America, Canada and Australia.
Other members of Amazon’s Canadian originals team include Magda Grace, head of Prime Video Canada, and Nav Saini, head of content, Prime Video Canada.
Wayne was previously president of Cineflix Studios before departing in 2013 to produce content under her production banner Assembly Entertainment. Before joining Cineflix, Wayne served as SVP of scripted programming at AMC.
