Crave orders docuseries on Montreal influencer drug scandal

Set for a December release, the three-part series is produced by Montreal's Urbania and Connect3.

Bell Media streaming service Crave has ordered a docuseries about the real-life story of Montreal-based social media influencers caught up in a global drug trafficking network.

Cocaine, Prison & Likes: Isabelle’s True Story is produced by Montreal’s Urbania and Connect3 and directed by Sébastien Trahan (Corruption: Les révélations choc de la commission Charbonneau).

The three-part series will be released to English and French-language audiences on Crave in December.

The docuseries will tell the story of Isabelle Lagacé as she shares personal details of how a cruise with fellow influencer Mélina Roberge led to them serving time in prison following one of the largest cocaine seizures in Australia’s history.

Executive producers include Urbania’s Philippe Lamarre and Annie Bourdeau, and Connect3’s Pablo Salzman and Andre Barro.

The true story has also been the subject of a scripted feature, titled Sugar, with Connect3 serving as a coproducer with B.C.’s Sepia Films and Mexico’s Kanan Films. The film has already been acquired by Amazon streamer Prime Video as a Canadian Amazon Original film. Cineflix Rights handles distribution.

Crave has previously greenlit the original documentary King of Coke from the two prodcos, which was listed as part of the streamer’s 2022-23 slate and initially announced as part of the 2021 upfront lineup.
