Workin’ Moms to end after its seventh season

Production is underway in Toronto on the final season of the CBC and Netflix original comedy, created by Catherine Reitman.

Production has started in Toronto on what will be the seventh and final season of Workin’ Moms.

Creator, executive producer and star Catherine Reitman (pictured) has announced the upcoming season of the CBC and Netflix original comedy, produced by Reitman and Philip Sternberg’s Wolf + Rabbit Entertainment, will be the last.

The 13 x 30-minute final season will premiere on CBC and CBC Gem in winter 2023, followed by its global release on Netflix.

The Canadian Screen Award-nominated show about mothers balancing their careers and families is also executive produced by fellow cast member Sternberg, as well as Jonathan A. Walker, Tina Horwitz and Joe Sorge. Jessie Gabe and Karen Kicak also serve as executive producers as well as showrunners on season seven.

Lisa Benedetto is co-executive producer and Daniel Gold is supervising producer.

Workin’ Moms is produced with the financial participation of the Canada Media Fund and Netflix. The series is distributed internationally by Coldsprings Media and represented by executive producer Horwitz and her company Vanguarde Artists Management.

Writers this season include Reitman, Jessie Gabe, Karen Kicak, Daniel Gold, Aidan O’Loughlin, Masooma Hussain, Linsey Stewart, and Enuka Okuma. The directors are Yael Staav, Vivieno Caldinelli, Dani Kind (who also stars in the show) and Romeo Candido.

In a statement, Reitman thanked the show’s fans as well as CBC and Netflix. Making the show “has been the ride of my life” and “cemented in me the importance of telling stories that have meaning, surrounded by artisans who get it,” she said.

“But like any story, there must be an ending,” she added. “And so, it is with love and gratitude that I’m announcing season seven as our final season.”

In a post on Instagram, Reitman also said the final season is “a love letter” to the show’s fans and her father, Ivan Reitman, who died in February. She said it was difficult to make the decision to end it “but it is time,” she added.

Sally Catto, general manager of entertainment, factual and sports at CBC, said the series “will undoubtedly continue to connect with audiences for years to come.”

“While it will be bittersweet to say goodbye to these unforgettable characters, we are excited for audiences to watch this brilliant final season,” said Catto.
