After two years in the role, Brian Paes-Braga has stepped down as chairman of Thunderbird Entertainment’s board of directors, the company announced on Monday (Dec. 6) at its annual general meeting. Mogul Productions co-chair Paul Sparkes, who has sat on the board since 2012, also won’t stand for re-election.
Lead director Marni Wieshofer, formerly EVP corporate development at Lionsgate, will serve as interim chair of the board as Thunderbird searches for a permanent replacement for Paes-Braga.
Paes-Braga is stepping away “to focus on other projects, both professionally and personally,” according to a statement. He currently serves as managing partner at SAF Group, a private equity and investment firm.
He became chairman of the board in 2019 after former chair Ivan Fecan transitioned to a producing role at the company. Fecan, who was named as chair in 2013, served as a producer on Thunderbird’s Kim’s Convenience and its spin-off series Strays.
Thunderbird Entertainment’s board of directors currently consists of Wieshofer, Thunderbird president and CEO Jennifer Twiner McCarron, Pacific Reach Seniors Housing Management CEO Azim Jamal, Fiore Financial Corporation president and CEO Frank Giustra and Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton, LLP partner Linda Michaelson.
