Bell Media has removed the tiered subscription model for its over-the-top (OTT) service Crave, introducing a mobile-only plan in its place.
The full library of Crave content is now available to subscribers, who have the choice between a mobile-only option, titled Crave Mobile and priced at $9.99, or the ability to view on any device for $19.99, named Crave Total. STARZ will continue to be offered as a separate premium add-on.
The SVOD previously offered Crave content at a $9.99 price point, with HBO, HBO Max, Showtime and premium film titles available at a second tier price of $19.99.
Crave is available to download on Apple, Android or Windows devices for phone or tablet. The app is also available on Samsung, Sony Android, LG and RCA Smart TVs, gaming consoles PlayStation and XBox, as well as connected devices Amazon Fire, Android TV, Apple TV, Bell Fibe, Chromecast and Roku.
The move comes as Crave continues to expand its offerings and its original commissions. The streamer has built on its existing original hits Canada’s Drag Race and Letterkenny with a number of greenlights, including Letterkenny spin-off Shoresy, limited drama Little Bird, comedies Du me a Favour and Pillow Talk and unscripted series 1 Queen, 5 Queers and Thunder Bay.
The SVOD has also built its library of French and third-language content. The first French-language Crave original Sortez-moi de moi premiered this spring, and Crave partnered with the Asian Television Network to release its Bollywood Bonanza Collection on Oct. 20, which includes 20 movies and series in Hindi. Crave will also release a Chinese Movies & TV collection on Nov. 10, including films and series from HBO Asia.
Canada’s streaming market has continued to grow in the last year. Discovery+ launched domestically on Oct. 19 with a strategic partnership with Corus Entertainment and Blue Ant Media partnered with BBC Studios to launch BBC First in Canada in the spring. Meanwhile, Nordic Entertainment Group is expected to launch its streaming service Viaplay in Canada 2023.
