Uninterrupted Canada, the Canadian offshoot of LeBron James’ digital sports media brand Uninterrupted, is partnering with Bell Media, DreamCrew Entertainment and The SpringHill Company on a feature-length documentary chronicling the history and influence of Black hockey players and the systemic racism they have faced.
The doc, which explores the journey of Black players from the creation of The Colored Hockey League of the Maritimes to the modern-day NHL, will receive its Canadian TV premiere exclusively on TSN, Crave and CTV platforms.
The project, produced in association with First Take Entertainment and made with the financial support of Telefilm, Canada Media Fund and Ontario Creates, will also receive a Canadian theatrical release via Elevation Pictures.
Black Ice is the fourth long-form project from Uninterrupted Canada since it launched in July 2019. The Canadian entity is jointly led by CEO Scott Moore and chief content officer Vinay Virmani. When it launched, it did so with Toronto-based musician Drake acting as a partner on the Canadian expansion.
The film is directed by filmmaker Hubert Davis, whose previous credits include the Oscar and Emmy-nominated documentary Hardwood and Giants of Africa.
Virmani is a producer on Black Ice, with Drake and Adele “Future” Nur serving as executive producers.
