Wynonna Earp‘s journey on Syfy may be ending, but there’s still hope the series will continue.

A source close to production has told Playback Daily that producers are actively looking for a new U.S. broadcaster to pick up a fifth season following NBCUniversal channel Syfy’s decision to cancel the series after four seasons.

Wynonna Earp is produced by Calgary’s SEVEN24 Films, with the latter half of season four set to premiere on March 5 on Syfy and CTV Sci-Fi Channel in Canada.

“I’d like to thank our wonderful cast and crew, all of whom were instrumental in bringing Wynonna Earp to our loyal and passionate audience,” said Emily Andras, creator, showrunner and executive producer, in a statement released by Syfy. “We couldn’t be prouder of these last six episodes on Syfy, and are thrilled to share them with our beloved fans, who have changed our lives forever. I have been honoured to tell Wynonna and her family’s story, and along with Seven24, Cineflix and CTV Sci-Fi, are hopeful we can continue to share their inspiring tales in the future.”

The same fandom who successfully campaigned to save the series’ fourth season has already started a social media campaign to save the series once again with the hashtag #FiveForWynonna bragging “instant fandom with a worldwide reach!” and addressed to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Paramount plus and Viacom CBS.

The fourth season was stuck in limbo for months when financing fell out ahead of production, and fans ran a headline-making campaign with billboards in New York City’s Times Square.

The series was eventually able to get back into production with backing from Bell Media streamer Crave and Cineflix Media, with Cineflix Rights signing on as an international distributor alongside rights holder IDW.

The first half of season four, which was shot before the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown productions in Canada in March 2020, premiered in July 2020. Production on the latter half resumed in the summer.

The series has picked up a number of accolades during its run, including four consecutive GLAAD Media nominations for a drama series and winning two People’s Choice Awards for Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show.
