Enslaved set to debut this October
Upcoming Samuel L. Jackson-led docuseries Enslaved (pictured) will make its debut in Canada this October.
Premiering on Oct. 17 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CBC’s documentary Channel and on Oct. 18 at 9 p.m. on CBC TV and CBC Gem, the six-part series was previously unveiled during the broadcaster’s 2019 Upfront. In May it was revealed the Canada/U.K. copro from Toronto’s Associated Producers and London, U.K.-based Cornelia Street Productions would be part of CBC’s fall 2020 schedule.
Enslaved reveals a new perspective on the history of slavery through underwater archeology. Each episode follows the quest for a sunken slave ship, narrator and executive producer Jackson’s personal journey and a historical investigation led by investigative journalists Simcha Jacobovici and Afua Hirsch.
In addition to Jackson, executive producers include series director Jacobovici, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Eli Selden, Rob Lee, Ric Esther Bienstock, Sarah Sapper and Yaron Niski. The project is produced by Bienstock, Sapper and Felix Golubev, and produced in association with Anonymous Content, along with Samuel and LaTanya Jackson’s production company UppiTV.
Produced in association with CBC and the documentary Channel in Canada, the copro is expected to land on EPIX in the U.S. on Sept. 14. Fremantle holds the global distribution rights to Enslaved, excluding Canada, the U.S. and Israel.
