Ali Abbasi’s The Apprentice (Scythia Films, Tailored Films, Profile Pictures) claimed two major prizes during the fifth and final ceremony of the 2025 Canadian Screen Awards (CSAs) on Sunday (June 1) evening.
Tonight’s awards, hosted by comedian and actor Lisa Gilroy at the CBC Broadcast Centre in Toronto, saw the Canada/Ireland/Denmark coproduction lead the night with wins in Best Motion Picture for Scythia Films’ Daniel Bekerman (pictured) and Performance in a Leading Role, Drama for Sebastian Stan, totaling five awards for the Donald Trump biopic across all CSA Awards ceremonies this weekend.
Cate Blanchett won Best Performance in a Leading Role, Comedy for her work in Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson and Galen Johnson’s Rumours (Buffalo Gal Pictures, Maze Pictures, Square Peg Films), the first award for the surreal comedy horror at this year’s CSAs.
CBC’s Run the Burbs (Pier 21 Films) claimed its first statue as well with Best Lead Performer, Comedy for Andrew Phung and Supinder Wraich scored Best Lead Performer, Drama for CBC’s Allegiance (Lark Productions), marking its third CSA award overall.
Jennifer Wickham, Brenda Michell and Michael Toledano’s Yintah (Yintah Films), won its second across the weekend’s five CSA shows, as it was recognized as the Best Feature Length Documentary.
CTV’s Children Ruin Everything (New Metric Media) added to its three wins from the previous Scripted Television Awards with Best Comedy Series while Citytv’s Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent (Lark Productions, Cameron Pictures) claimed Best Drama Series, marking three total wins for the police procedural.
Crave’s Canada’s Drag Race (Blue Ant Studios) added onto its tally in the final night, snagging Best Reality/Competition Program or Series. The series led all winners with eight awards across the weekend’s ceremonies.
Matthew Rankin’s Universal Language (Metafilms) won for Achievement in Direction, bringing its total wins to six.
The Cogeco Fund Audience Choice Award was given to W Network’s The Way Home (Neshama Entertainment, Fox Entertainment Studios), while APTN’s Warrior Up! (Picture This Productions) was named the winner of the Canada Media Fund Kids’ Choice Award.
As previously announced, actor Manny Jacinto and producer Marsha Greene were presented with the Radius and Changemaker Awards, respectively.
While not adding to their tally on Sunday, Tubi’s MOW Wynonna Earp: Vengeance (SEVEN24 Films) and Prime Video’s docuseries The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal (Fully and Complete Productions) ended the CSAs with seven awards each.
