Thunderbird Releasing managing director to depart

Edward Fletcher will leave the U.K. distribution arm of Thunderbird Entertainment Group next month.

edward-fletcher-featureThunderbird Releasing co-founder and managing director Edward Fletcher (pictured) has announced he will leave the Thunderbird Entertainment Group-owned U.K. distribution arm in August.

A spokesperson confirmed the news, which was originally reported by Screen Daily. There are no current plans to replace Fletcher and employees will remain in their existing positions.

Thunderbird acquired the distributor, which was previously named Soda Pictures, back in 2014. Fletcher launched the company alongside Eve Gabereau – who departed the company last year – in 2002. The distributor’s recent acquisitions include The Kindergarten Teacher, Sundance winner Queen of Hearts and 2018 Palme d’Or winner Shoplifters.

Thunderbird recently expanded its presence in the U.K. with the launch of an international coproduction division for scripted and unscripted projects, led by Ed Sayer. Thunderbird inked a deal with U.K. prodco Workerbee to produce factual content from Thunderbird’s existing factual IP.

The Vancouver-based company recently tapped Lindsay Macadam to lead scripted development under its factual division as part of its strategy to mine its factual IP for scripted projects.
