Thunderbird Entertainment Group has inked a distribution agreement with South Korea’s Yoon & Company for the first three seasons of Kim’s Convenience.
Under the deal, Seoul-based Yoon & Company will distribute the half-hour comedy in South Korea and Japan, in addition to a number of other Asian territories (to be confirmed at a later date). The series will begin airing on the South Korean cable channel TV Chosun later this month.
The deal comes six months after Netflix acquired streaming rights to the series in the U.S. and a number of other international territories. Amazon also holds VOD rights in the U.K. and U.S.
The show, based on Ins Choi’s stage play of same name, tells the story of a Korean-Canadian family that owns a convenience store in downtown Toronto. Choi co-created the series with Kevin White. It is produced by Thunderbird’s Ivan Fecan, who also executive produces the show alongside Choi and White, and stars Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Jean Yoon, Simu Liu, Andrea Bang, Andrew Phung and Nicole Power.
The announcement comes five days ahead of the show’s season-three premiere on Jan. 8. CBC greenlit a fourth season of the show during its Upfront in May.
