U.S.-based distributor Abramorama has acquired the U.S. theatrical rights to director/producer Ron Mann’s 10th feature documentary, Carmine Street Guitars.

The doc, which recently made its world debut out of competition at the Venice International Film Festival, is produced by Mann’s Sphinx Productions shingle and follows a custom guitar maker and his apprentice in their Greenwich Village shop. Carmine was penned by Len Blum and exec produced by Carter Logan and Michael Hirsch.

The film will open theatrically at New York’s Film Forum theater in the spring of 2019. The doc’s Canadian distributor Films We Like, co-founded by Mann and Gary Topp, also plans to release the feature at the same time, according to a spokesperson. The agreement with Abramorama was brokered by the film’s international sales agent, The Match Factory.

Carmine Street Guitars marks Mann’s second time at Venice. In 2014, his doc Altman, a feature about the life and times of legendary filmmaker Robert Altman (M*A*S*H, Nashville) was the only Canadian film selected to screen at the fest that year.

The doc has also screened at TIFF, the FIN Atlantic International Film Festival, the New York Film Festival and the Reykjavik International Film Festival, to name a few.
