Sony Pictures Television is shutting down Crackle in Canada.
Effective June 28, the ad-supported streaming service will no longer be available in Canada, according to a statement by the company. The service launched in Canada in 2010, and offered a small slate of originals, as well as movies and TV series from Sony Pictures’ library.
Sony Pictures Television signed an output deal with Bell Media last month to offer classic TV shows and recently released films on its new free-to-consumer VOD channels, CTV Vault and CTV Movies.
“As part of a recently announced partnership between Sony Pictures Television and Bell Media, some content that was available on Sony Crackle in Canada will be available on Bell Media’s new VOD services, CTV Movies and CTV Vault, later this year. Sony Crackle will continue to focus on its longform original content in the U.S. and Latin America,” said a Sony Crackle spokesperson.
