Lindsey Ramey has joined Wattpad Studios as its director of content development and production.
Ramey will join Wattpad’s Los Angeles-based team, where she will report to head of content development and production, Eric Lehrman.
In a release announcing the hire, Aron Levitz, head of Wattpad Studios, said Ramey’s appointment marks the company’s next step in its entertainment expansion. The company also said it plans to add 40 more positions this year to support its expanding international entertainment business.
In her new position, Ramey will collaborate with local entertainment studios, producers and writers to turn Wattpad stories into film, TV series and digital media projects.
Prior to joining the company, Ramey served as TV consultant, production and development for L.A.’s Super Deluxe, where she oversaw This Close, a Sundance Now original series, and Fullscreen’s Magic Funhouse. She also previously served as VP, production and development at L.A.-based Hypnotic and Heyday Films.
Her appointment follows the company’s recent announcement that it had hired Dexter Ong as its Head of Asia to expand its business and lead its operations in the region. The company also recently promoted Kelly Steen to Wattpad Studios’ director of business development for U.S. and Europe, and Ashleigh Gardner to deputy general manager, Wattpad Studios, publishing.
In addition, the user-generated story platform announced in May that U.S.-based streaming service Hulu had given a 10-episode, straight-to-series order to Zoe Aarsen’s supernatural Wattpad story Light as a Feather. The greenlight marks the first time Hulu has picked up a Wattpad story and is a joint venture between Wattpad Studios, California-based AwesomenessTV and U.S. actor Kelsey Grammer’s prodco Grammnet.
