New York-headquartered indie distributor The Orchard has acquired the U.S. rights to Carly Stone’s feature debut, The New Romantic.

The feature is produced by Kyle Mann and Michael Risley of L.A. and Vancouver-based Drive Films (Edge of Winter), who also financed the film, as well as  JoBro Productions’ Jonathan Bronfman (The Witch) and Jason Jallet from Notario Films (Two Lovers and a Bear). JoBro’s Andrew Bronfman is an associate producer on the project.

The New Romantic follows a college senior (played by The End of the F***ing World‘s Jessica Barden) who dates an older man in exchange for gifts.

The Orchard is planning a fall theatrical release for the feature, with a launch in New York and Los Angeles.

The deal was negotiated by The Orchard’s Danielle DiGiacomo with Aqute Media founders Berry Meyerowitz and Jeff Sackman and ICM Partners, on behalf of the filmmaker.

The New Romantic recently made its world premiere at SXSW, where it took home the Special Jury Recognition prize for a First Feature in the Narrative Feature competition.
