Blake Steels has resigned from his post as president of Pinewood Studios Toronto, the studio announced Wednesday.
Steels joined Pinewood in 2009, spending two years as director of client services before being upped to president in 2011.
“During Blake’s tenure as president, Pinewood Toronto Studios became profitable and added new sound stages and support facilities. We extend our gratitude to Blake for his contribution to the Studios’ growth and success and wish him well in his future endeavours,” said Bill Bryck, a director of Pinewood Toronto Studios, in a release.
According to a company spokesperson, there are no immediate plans to name a replacement. “It is business as usual until further notice, with Pinewood UK Group continuing to sell space and service Pinewood Toronto Studio clients,” said the spokesperson.
News of Steels’ departure comes a month after Bell Media revealed it had acquired a majority stake at Pinewood Toronto Studios, in partnership with Paul Bronfman’s Comweb Studio Holdings, as well as Castlepoint and the City of Toronto.
The media co also announced its intention to add an additional 170,000 square feet of sound stages and support space to the facility, with Nanci MacLean, VP and head of Bell Media Studios, tapped to oversee operations at the studio.
Projects that have filmed at Pinewood’s Toronto location in recent years include Star Trek: Discovery, Molly’s Game, season two of The Expanse and Suicide Squad.
