Toronto’s Fresh TV is teaming up with Lucas the Spider‘s creator, Joshua Slice, to expand the animated spider’s web.

The prodco behind Backstage has acquired the rights to Slice’s animated spider property and plans to create an ongoing series and feature length projects with the creation.

Lucas the Spider was created in 2017 and follows a spider who tries to navigate the world around him. On YouTube, the short animated series has 1.5 million subscribers and has amassed over 60 million views.

Slice’s other credits include working as an animator on Ferdinand, Big Hero 6 and Zootopia, among others. Slice’s nephew, also named Lucas, is the voice behind the spider.
