Vancouver-based Bron has acquired the rights to Danish author Sara Blaedel’s bestselling crime fiction series to adapt for TV.
The novels follow Copenhagen’s commander of the missing persons department, Louise Rick. The first book in the series, The Forgotten Girls, will be used as the basis for season one of the television show. It follows Rick and her partner as they set out to find the killer of an unidentified woman discovered in the woods.
Bron’s Aaron L. Gilbert and Danielle Reardon will executive produce. The deal was negotiated by Bron’s SVP of business and legal affairs David Davoli and Shari Smiley of The Gotham Group.
Blaedel is known as Denmark’s “Queen of Crime,” and her work has been published in more than 30 countries.
Scandinavian television crime series have sold well internationally in recent years, with The Killing, The Bridge and Borgen finding global success.
Bron, which has made a name for itself as an indie film producer and financier, announced it was intending to get into the TV game in February. In June, it launched L.A.-based Media Res, a TV-focused partnership with HBO’s former EVP of programming Michael Ellenberg. Media Res most recently acquired the rights to David Cronenberg’s Scanners for adaptation.
