Syfy renews Van Helsing for season two

While a broadcaster for English Canada has yet to be secured, season one of the Nomadic Pictures-produced series premieres on Super Ecran in French Canada in December.

U.S. net Syfy has renewed Nomadic Pictures’ Van Helsing for a second season.

Season one of the 13-episode hour-long action horror, which shot in Vancouver, premiered on the channel on Sept. 23.

The first season of the series was set to air on Super Channel in English Canada, but after Super Channel operator Allarco Entertainment filed for creditor protection in May, the company announced it would no longer move forward with its pre-license of the show.

A broadcaster for English Canada has yet to be confirmed, however, season one of Van Helsing will premiere on Super Ecran in French Canada on Dec. 7.

Nomadic’s Chad Oakes confirmed to Playback Daily that the 13-episode second season will shoot in Vancouver, with the series set to go to camera at the end of February.

Van Helsing follows vampire hunter Vanessa Van Helsing (Kelly Overton), who discovers she has a cure for vampirism. The series also stars Jonathan Scarfe, Christopher Heyerdahl, Paul Johansson, David Cubitt, Vincent Gale and Tim Guinee.

Van Helsing is executive produced by Nomadic Pictures’ Oakes and Mike Frislev, showrunner/writer Neil LaBute, Simon Barry, Evan Tyler of Vancouver’s Industry Works, Echo Lake Entertainment’s Dave Brown and Zadoc Angell, and Daniel March of L.A.-based Dynamic Television.

Nomadic is handling the series’ Canadian distribution, with Dynamic Television handling worldwide distribution of the series, excluding first run U.S. television.
