The Canada Media Fund has backed three digital media coproduction projects with an overall investment of about $1.1 million via the Canada-New Zealand Digital Media Fund, now in its second year.
The partnership between the CMF and New Zealand government funding agency NZ On Air sees both bodies contribute an equal share of the total funding distributed through the incentive. Two of the projects received $400,000, while the third received approximately $300,000.
Curious Critters from Montreal-based prodco La Boîte à Pitons and Auckland’s Yoozoo received $400,000 (CMF: $196,000, NZ On Air: $204,000), with Fierce Girls from Mamaoo Pictures and Rotorua, New Zealand-based Awatea Tech receiving the same amount (CMF: $200,000, NZ On Air: $200,000).
Meanwhile, Mythical Creatures from B.C’s Arcana Studios and Hawkes Bay-based Kiwi Digital took $300,000 (CMF: $170,000, NZ On Air: $130,000).
In its inaugural year, the Canada-New Zealand Digital Media Fund distributed $1.2 million across three projects, with projects I Spy With My Five Eyes, The Nations and We Are The Remarkables all receiving $400,000.
