Marina Cordoni Entertainment (MCE)

Marina Cordoni Entertainment (MCE) will be representing the distribution rights for We Were Wolves, the first feature film from director Jordan Canning. MCE will seek U.S. and foreign distribution deals for the film, which is slated to have its world premiere at TIFF in the Discovery program. We Were Wolves stars Steve Cochrane (Afghan Luke), Peter Mooney (Rookie BlueParachute) and Lynda Boyle (Republic of DoyleThe L Word). The film was written by Cochrane and Canning, who also serve as co-producers. We Were Wolves is executive produced by  Jay Firestone, Stratford Canning, Sam Pryse-Phillips, Peter Mooney  and First Love Films.

Blue Ice Docs

Toronto-based indie Blue Ice Docs has picked up 11 feature docs for Canadian theatrical distribution. The company will release Lina Plioplyte and Ari Seth Cohen’s Advanced Style; Jennifer Grausman, Sam Cullman and Mark Becker’s Art and Craft; Amar Wala’s The Secret Trial 5; Gracie Otto’s The Last Impresario; Marshall Curry’s Tribeca Film Festival winner Point and Shoot (pictured above) and Catherine Gund’s Born To Fly: Elizabeth Streb vs. Gravity in theaters this fall.

Kris Kaczor’s Divide In Concord and Rehad Desai’s Miners Shot Down will hit cinemas in January, while Vanessa Lapa’s The Decent One and Arash T. Riahi, Arman T. Riahi’s Everyday Rebellion will open in next spring. In addition, the company also acquired Justin Weinstein and Tyler Measom’s An Honest Liar, which opened in Toronto earlier this month.

IMAX

IMAX and Mexico-based cinema exhibition company Cineplis have announced a deal to open up three new theatres in the U.S., the first of which will be opened in Kissimee, Florida. The locations of the other three theatres have yet to be determined. The deal marks the first IMAX theatres Cineplis will open in the U.S. market, and expands upon the 25-theatre commitment the company already has with IMAX. Aside from the U.S., Cineplis operates IMAX theatres in eight other countries.

Proper Rights

Toronto-based distributor Proper Rights has sold a raft of factual entertainment series to assorted broadcasters internationally, including automotive series Last Car Standing (pictured, 8 x 60 minutes) and Strip ‘n’ Rip (aka Vegas Rat Rods, 8 x 60 minutes). Read more about the deal here.
