Multi-platform agency Juice is partnering with indie distributor Indiecan Entertainment to help aggregate and release six feature films on digital platforms in Canada.
“As per the sponsorship, Juice has agreed to do all the necessary work to deliver the films to iTunes as well as (make them available) for VOD platforms,” said Avi Federgreen, creator of IndieCan10K. “For iTunes, Juice is providing the service in-kind, and is providing the VOD service at a significant discounted rate,” he said via email.
The six films participating in the national initiative are: A Sunday Kind of Love (cast pictured) by Geordie Sabbagh, Basic Human Needs by Matt Yim, Female Seeking Male by Melanie Jones, Intersection by , Noon Gun by Caley MacLennan, and Owl River Runners by Danny Thebeau. All productions will begin principal photography this month and are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
After the films do the festival circuit, Juice will release them individually through iTunes and VOD platforms. Juice will provide the filmmakers with services such as digital asset management, encoding and delivery of the content to iTunes.
“We will also give the filmmakers access to Canadian Cable VOD (Rogers, Shaw, MTS, Sasktel), in addition to Xbox, Sony, Google Play, Amazon, for filmmakers that are looking for international exposure,” said Andrew Buck, CEO of Juice, in an email.
Indiecan10K helps connect emerging directors and producers with industry partners and sponsors. To take part in the program, all of the filmmakers campaigned to raise between $11,00 and $15,000 through Indiegogo. By participating in the IndieCan10K program they have access to post-production facilities and in-kind support from mentors, valued at $200,000 per film.
