Anchorman 2’s Ron Burgundy: TSN’s latest hire, or publicity stunt?

Will Ferrell, reprising the role of Burgundy in Anchor Man 2: The Legend Continues, is to exchange that stylish ’70s-style suit for a TSN jacket as his comic character becomes the latest addition to the sport channel’s broadcast team in December.

Details on Burgundy’s new role at TSN will be revealed during the network’s live broadcast of the 101st Grey Cup this Sunday night.

“This is going to end terribly,” said Burgundy in a statement Friday as the movie publicity stunt, to reach a dramatic climax at the Grey Cup game, first leaked out.

TSN anchor James Duthie on Friday afternoon first revealed on his Twitter account that the channel would announce a “new hire” that day.

Duthie not long afterwards poured water on speculation in the Twitterverse that Toronto mayor Rob Ford would board TSN.

#TSN hired veteran broadcaster Ron Burgundy. Details of his role to be announced Grey Cup Sunday,” Duthie finally announced on his Twitter account.

Ferrell, in character as Burgundy,  stars in Paramount Pictures’ Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, which hits theatres on Dec. 20.
