Markham Street Films has tapped Anita Doron to direct the theatrical feature Sailor Girl in 2014.
Coming off her latest feature The Lesser Blessed, Toronto-based Doron will shoot a film adaptation of the Sheree-Lee Olson novel of the same name about a 19-year-old woman travelling on a Great Lakes freighter using a script by Johanna Schneller.
“I’m excited to dive into Sailor Girl and direct a movie which takes us into the raw sexuality of a young woman experiencing a life-changing summer in the rough and tough subculture of a Great Lakes commercial ship,” Doron said in a statement.
Sailor Girl, now out to cast, has financial support from Telefilm Canada and the Harold Greenberg Fund.
