Look for George Stroumboulopoulos on another three-lettered network starting with “C” this summer – the CBC host is joining CNN’s summer lineup as part of a one-hour interview series.
The 10-episode show will air on Fridays in primetime starting in the early summer.
Stroumboulopoulos will host the show, which is to be filmed in L.A. in front of a live audience, in a somewhat similar format to his George Stroumbolouopoulos Tonight late-night talker on the CBC.
Sony Pictures TV’s Embassy Row will produce the series.
A report on CBC.ca quoted Stroumboulopoulos saying: “I feel really lucky to have been in broadcasting for 20 years in Canada,” George says, “and I’m excited to now also bring our conversations with people making the biggest news in entertainment, politics, sports, and pop culture to a whole new audience.”
The report also quoted senior VP of development and acquisition for CNN Worldwide Vinnie Malhotra on the network’s choice of the Canadian host and the new series: “George is genuinely interested in everything, which makes his interviews informative and entertaining explorations. This compelling series is a sharp, creative addition to our summer Friday schedule,” Malhotra said.
The news was confirmed by CBC EVP English service Kirstine Stewart, who tweeted that Stroumboulopoulos wouldn’t be going south of the border permanently, and that Canadian viewers could expect to see him back on the pubcaster.
