RoboCop is returning to duty – this time on the streets of Hamilton.
Director José Padilha’s upcoming remake of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 action classic about a Detroit cop, who is killed on duty only to return as a hulking cyborg, will shoot on and around James Street in the steel city from Sept. 24 to Oct. 1.
The city will be made to look like Detroit.
The film, produced by MGM and Columbia Pictures, stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson and Canuck Jay Baruchel.
Nick Schenk, James Vanderbilt and Joshua Zeturner penned the screenplay, and Bill Carraro is executive producer.
Robocop began production in Toronto Saturday, and will use the Pinewood Toronto Studios as one of its locations.
The film is slated for release Aug. 9, 2013.
