Natyf TV signs licensing deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment

Among the licensed films is the Will Smith-starring Seven Pounds and the 2014 remake of About Last Night.

Montreal-based Natyf TV has signed a licensing deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) for 20 feature films with basic cable and SVOD rights.

The deal, which comes into effect on Sunday (Dec. 1), will see 20 French-dubbed films from SPE’s library make their way to Natyf’s television programming and streaming service.

Among the films included in the deal are Seven Pounds (Columbia Pictures, Relativity Media, Overbrook Entertainment, Escape Artists; pictured), Think Like a Man (Screen Gems, Rainforest Films) and the 2014 remake of About Last Night (Screen Gems, Olive Bridge Entertainment, Rainforest Films).

The release dates for each film will be announced on the Natyf website next week, a spokesperson for Natyf TV told Playback Daily, adding that the films will “help Natyf to provide high quality entertainment content appealing to our racialized audience.”

Broadcasting since 2018, Natyf TV is a Canadian television channel and streaming service that offers diverse programming for and by racialized and ethnic minority francophone communities. In 2023, the CRTC approved the company’s application for Natyf TV to be carried as a mandatory channel for basic TV packages in Quebec.

Earlier this year in April, Natyf announced that it was available in Quebec through most cable distributors and also available live, delayed and through streaming on its website. In May, the channel was added to the Quebecor Media-owned Videotron, one of Canada’s largest telecommunication companies.
