Canadian indie producer Skywriter Media & Entertainment Group has hired popular kids book writer Leslie McGuirk as a resident author for its eBook business.

Launching the author-in-residence program with McGuirk in the chair follows the release of four interactive eBook apps by Skywriter’s mobile app publishing division, Skyreader Media.

Besides creating new interactive eBook titles for the iPad platform, McGuirk will work with Skyreader Media to adapt her classic kids book series’ into eBooks for other tablet platforms.

McGuirk’s book titles to receive early eBook treatment include Pip the Penguin and Tucker and Snail Boy.

“This is an integral step in building out our Skyreader program to bring bestselling authors to children everywhere with creative, interactive eBook apps,” Skywriter topper Kevin Gillis said in a statement.
