The Dot Film Company rolls on found footage film Followers

Directed by Ken Amlin, the thriller sees a group's attempt to grow their YouTube following take a deadly turn.

Writer-director Ken Amlin is exploring the darker side of YouTube with the found footage feature Followers from Toronto-based prodco The Dot Film Company.

Written by Amlin and Theodore Bezaire, the thriller follows a group of urban explorers venturing into an abandoned house in a bid to increase their YouTube following, only to end up in a fight for survival.

Production began on Dec. 12 in Mississauga, Ont., and continues until Dec. 20, with some additional photography planned in January, Bezaire told Playback Daily.

Followers stars Jessica Antovski (pictured right), Michael Krym (pictured centre) and Catherine Valle-Taylor (pictured left).

The film is produced by Gerry Lattmann and co-produced by Bezaire, Mike Sasko and Jeff Nadalin in association with Windsor, Ont.-based KRA Productions.

Followers is funded by private equity, with no distributor attached as of press time, according to Bezaire.

In a statement, Lattmann said the film “pushes the boundaries” of the found footage genre “while delivering genuine scares and emotional depth.”
