Jasmeet Raina is stepping into the director’s chair for season two of his semi-autobiographical series Late Bloomer.

The 8 x 30-minute new season of the Crave original series is now in production in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and will premiere sometime in 2025. Shooting began Oct. 28 and will wrap Dec. 4. Late Bloomer is created by Raina, who stars as a fictionalized version of himself: a burgeoning content creator trying to make it big.

Raina will direct two episodes, with co-executive producer Peter Huang helming the other six.

Late Bloomer is produced by Toronto’s Pier 21 Films, with Shebli Zarghami serving as executive producer and showrunner.

Baljinder Dhawan, Russell Peters and Clayton Peters are also executive producers along with Pier 21 Films’ Laszlo Barna, Nicole Butler and Vanessa Steinmetzserve. Lakna Edirisinghe is co-executive producer and writer while Robbie David is on board as producer.

Joining Raina in the season two cast are Baljinder Singh Atwal, Sandeep Bali, Ashley Ganger, Sugenja Sri, Sachin Mahashi and Ahamed Weinberg. Seher Khot is also returning in an expanded role.

“There is so much we want to keep exploring around the unseen racialized experience in North America and we’re going to keep pushing to take bold swings with the comedy,” said Raina in a statement. “Stepping into directing this season is a new challenge for me which I am thrilled to take on.”

Late Bloomer is funded by the Canada Media Fund and the Bell Fund, as well as provincial and federal tax credits. Bell Media handles international distribution.
