Here’s a good omen: Canadian contender Incendies from Quebec director Denis Villeneuve is to open the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ screening schedule for the official Oscar best foreign language film award competition.
The Canadian film will screen on October 15 at 7:30 p.m. for Oscar voters, ahead of in all 65 films in four groups unspooling over the next three months to January 13; ending with a showing of Latvia’s Hong Kong Confidential.
The AMPAS screening will follow Incendies passing the $1 million box office mark in French speaking Canada, and ahead of the film launching at Bell Lightbox in Toronto on October 21, before additional dates countrywide to be confirmed by distributor Entertainment One.
Villeneuve’s drama about twins that journey to the Middle East to discover their family tree had a successful launch on the festival circuit, including Venice and Toronto.
The film earned the best Canadian feature award at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Incendies was produced by Luc Déry and Kim McCraw of indie producer micro_scope.
