CTV is beefing up its online presence by offering high-definition versions of primetime shows such as Flashpoint and Corner Gas through a new video player.
The new service, currently in test runs, makes CTV the first broadcaster to stream HD content online. In addition to offering full seasons of the action and comedy series, the network is also running Malawi’s Song — a made-for-digital doc that follows host Ben Mulroney and Canadian Idol judge Farley Flex to the poverty-stricken African country.
‘The CTV HD Beta Player allows us to raise the bar even higher in our commitment to delivering premium online content to Canadians on their terms. Experimenting with this technology and incorporating the valuable feedback we receive from our audience will be an excellent learning initiative for us,’ commented CTV VP of digital media Stephan Argent.
The HD player uses streaming video technology from Akamai AdaptiveEdge and Microsoft Silverlight. The shows can be viewed at hdbeta.ctv.ca
