CBC daytime finalists to six

The six finalists for CBC’s daytime drama project include pitches from some of Canada’s most prolific production companies, including two from Atlantic Canada, one from Vancouver and three from Toronto.

The pubcaster put out an open call in May asking producers to submit proposals for a daytime drama that reflects life in a Canadian community, and announced the finalists on Oct. 28. A previous shortlist drew criticism from some producers for its supposed favoring of large, established prodcos. In December, CBC will select two of the remaining proposals to be shot as pilots.

Finalists from the East Coast are Changing Germain from Moncton, NB-based Dream Street Pictures and North South, coproduced by the Halifax Film Company and Toronto’s Inner City Films. Vancouver’s Raging Ruby Pictures and William B Davis Productions are in the running with 49th and Main.

And from Toronto come Beaumonde Heights from Protocol Entertainment, The Regency from Breakthrough Films & Television, and Power and Pride, a Wilbo Entertainment/Hungry Eyes/Defiant Entertainment project.
