NSI CEO John Gill to depart

"The timing is right for me to step aside so that NSI can continue to reshape itself for the future," said Gill about his decision to leave the organization next month.

john gillNational Screen Institute CEO John Gill has resigned after eight years with the Winnipeg-headquartered non-profit organization.

“The timing is right for me to step aside so that NSI can continue to reshape itself for the future,” said Gill in a letter published on the NSI’s website today (April 18). “I know the organization remains in good hands.”

Gill will officially leave the position on May 31.

Gill joined the non-profit in 2011, replacing former CEO Derek Luis. Prior to that, Gill served as an independent media consultant, providing strategy, business and programming advice for various organizations.

Before then, he held a number of senior VP positions at Alliance Atlantis Communications. While with Alliance, he helped launch BBC Canada and BBC Kids. Additionally, from 1989 to 2000, he worked at TVOntario across a number of roles like director, network office; acting creative head of children’s programming; and director, network scheduling.

In a statement, the organization’s board of directors thanked Gill for his service and noted that all current and new programs at the NSI will continue.
