Atwood, Switzer to be honoured at 2018 CSAs

Denis McGrath will posthumously receive the Margaret Collier Award for his body of written work.

margaretatwood-1Margaret Atwood can add another accolade to her list of accomplishments this year. The author (and supervising producer) behind this year’s hit miniseries The Handmaid’s Tale and Alias Grace will be honoured at the 2018 Canadian Screen Awards with the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television’s Board of Directors’ Tribute for her commitments to the growth of the Canadian media industry.

Atwood is one of nine Canadian Academy special award recipients announced Oct. 30. Longtime industry exec and current Hollywood Suite chair Jay Switzer will also receive the Board of Directors’ Tribute at the 2018 CSAs.

WGC councillor and outspoken proponent of Canadian creatives Denis McGrath will posthumously receive the Margaret Collier Award for his body of written work, which includes the 2007 miniseries Across the River to Motor City. 

Rick Mercer Report, which is coming to an end after 15 seasons, will be honoured with the Academy Icon Award, for its contribution to the media industry at home and abroad.

Other recipients include actor/director Clark Johnson, who will received the Earle Grey Award; Pat Ellingson, recipient of the Outstanding Media Innovation Award; Karyn Pugliese, winner of the Gordon Sinclair Award for Broadcast Journalism; and Humanitarian Award winner Bell Let’s Talk.

The awards will be handed out at the 2018 CSA, broadcast live on CBC from The Sony Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto on March 11 at 8 p.m.
