Bell Media has inked a unique global deal with CBS Studios International to air the Star Trek series across its properties.

The Canadian broadcaster has acquired the Canadian TV and SVOD rights to the new Star Trek series, matching its U.S. release day-and-date with a stunt-launch on CTV (in the U.S., it will debut on CBS) and then moving the series to Space (in English) and Z (in French). In the U.S., the series will move to CBS’ All-Access OTT offering after its CBS debut, making Space the lone linear channel to carry the series globally. Netflix has exclusive rights to carry the series outside of Canada and the U.S. in the same first window (24 hours after CBS). Additionally, the entire season will be made available on CraveTV following the linear airing, with dates to be determined.

The rebooted franchise will premiere in January 2017.

In addition, Bell Media has licensed all 727 of the sci-fi series’ previous episodes. Prior seasons of the franchise include Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Enterprise and Star Trek: The Original Series.

Episodes from the Star Trek library will air on Space and Cinépop (in French Canada), with catalogue episodes also being added to CraveTV’s lineup.

CBS confirmed in late April that Toronto would host the new Star Trek series, which is scheduled to go into production this September at Pinewood Studios.

The last series of the franchise, Star Trek: Enterprise, ran for four seasons from 2001 to 2005. This year marks the 50-year anniversary since the launch of the show’s first series.

Based on Gene Roddenberry’s original series, the new episodes are created and executive produced by Alex Kurtzman and Bryan Fuller. The show is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout, Fuller’s Living Dead Guy Productions, and Roddenberry Entertainment. Executive producers on the project are Alex Kurtzman, Bryan Fuller, Heather Kadin, Gretchen Berg & Aaron Harberts, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth.
