Montreal-based Felix & Paul Studios has inked a deal to produce a slate of virtual reality projects to be distributed via the Oculus platform.
Users will be able to experience the Felix & Paul Studios projects via the Oculus Rift headset, to be released in the first quarter of 2016, and the in-market Samsung Gear VR for the Galaxy S6 smartphone.
All of the “experiences” in the slate will be written, directed and produced by Felix & Paul Studios, including all aspects of physical and post-production. In a statement, studio co-founder and leader Felix Lajeunesse said “each project born out of our partnership with Oculus will be an occasion to explore VR’s unprecedented potential to immerse viewers in human-driven experiences in the fields of fiction and non-fiction storytelling as well as music and the performing arts.”
Each project Felix & Paul Studios produces for Oculus will utilize the studio’s proprietary 3D VR system. The system includes the company’s own stereoscopic 360-degree camera, sound capture and end-to-end VR postproduction suite.
The multi-project deal with Oculus follows Felix & Paul Studios completing a number of Oculus-powered experiences, including immersive experiences for Cirque du Soleil Media and the Fox Searchlight feature Wild. The latest edition of Sundance also included a showcase of virtual reality installations from Lajeunesse and company co-leader Paul Raphael, titled The VR Works of Felix & Paul.
