YTV bows Slap Happy’s Nerds and Monsters

Corus Entertainment’s YTV is set to bow Nerds and Monsters, the first original animated series from Vancouver and L.A.-based indie animation studio Slap Happy Cartoons, on March 12 at 5:30 p.m. ET/PT.

Nerds and Monsters will then fall into its regular YTV timeslot the following week on Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m. ET/PT.

Aimed at six- to 11-year-olds, the 20 x 30-minute comedy series follows the adventures of a group of nerdy tween castaways who, after landing on an uncharted island, must use their smarts to survive an attacking horde of dim-witted monsters.

Corus originally greenlit the series in December 2012 after Slap Happy inked a development deal in January that year.

Toronto, Canada-based 9 Story Entertainment came on board to distribute the series a year later, its first acquisition under its new international distribution arm 9 Story Enterprises.

ABC TV Australia has also picked up the series from 9 Story, but has yet to announce a premiere date.

Slap Happy Cartoons was founded by Kathy Rocchio, Greg Sullivan, Josh Mepham and Vito Viscomi.
