Facebook has become a part of so many people’s lives that you couldn’t imagine a movie or a TV series not having a presence on it. And Canadians are among the world’s biggest users of the social media site, a point reinforced a couple of years ago when Toronto became the first city to register its one-millionth Facebook member. (Presumably my fellow citizens just can’t get enough of the blow-by-blow daily goings-on of the school chums they had successfully avoided for the previous 20 years.)

CRTC puts brakes on throttling

The CRTC has put the brakes on Internet throttling, laying down new guidelines for Internet service providers that allow the controversial practice only as ‘a last resort.’ The federal regulator is also calling for greater transparency from ISPs, requiring them to provide more information about their services to consumers.

Teletoon tests pilots online

Teletoon is allowing viewers to comment on, and vote for, 10 original pilots for potential development into series. The pilots, targeted at males 18 to 34, were commissioned as part of an effort to find new programming for the cable channel’s evening and nighttime lineup. They will run simultaneously on sympatico.ca and thedetour.ca for 10 weeks. The eleventh week will feature the pilot of a series already in development. The episodes will also be available through iTunes.
