Following the success of the TV movie Shania: A Life in Eight Albums in 2005, Toronto’s Barna-Alper Productions has high expectations of its latest rags-to-riches tale, the two-hour biopic Céline, based on the life of the Quebec-born singing star, now shooting in Hamilton, ON for CBC.
Showcase rolled out a darker second season (10 x 30) of its law office comedy Billable Hours earlier this month, thanks to U.S.-style showrunning by new executive producer Frank van Keeken.

Christal Films Productions is coproducing a supernatural thriller with France’s Fidélité Films that will bring John Malkovich, Evangeline Lilly (Lost) and Romain Duris (Molière) to Montreal in July for Afterwards. The West Edmonton Mall is hosting the U.S. shoot Christmas in Wonderland until next month, starring as itself in the holiday comedy from Jordan Films (Moondance Alexander). The picture follows a father and his kids, who run afoul of crooks and counterfeit money during their Christmas shopping, and is directed by James Orr (Blowing Smoke, Mr. Destiny). Henry Boger (Even Money) and Alexander Tabrizi (Blonde and Blonder) exec produce.
Montreal’s Couzin Films and director Michael Mackenzie (The Baroness and the Pig) are partway through shooting the feature Adam’s Wall, a romantic drama in which a young Lebanese girl falls in love with a Jewish teenager.
Carmen Electra and Toronto’s 121 Ventures have turned out another in what is becoming a series of naked wrestling specials, and will see the pay-per-view Naked Revolution air this month in the U.S. and on Viewers Choice.
