The deal follows a string of similar output agreements by Lionsgate such as with StudioCanal in Germany, Nordisk Films in Scandinavia and Roadshow Films in Australia.
The feature film is being lensed in Vancouver until Nov. 17, and is the first British Columbia shoot by the Canadian Film Centre.
The naming of Bickerton (pictured) to the top posting follows the recent order for the second season of the company’s drama Continuum.
The Dec. 1 workshop will include the short film award pitch, which sees five aspiring filmmakers vie for a $15,000 cash prize and ‘in-kind’ services of up to $100,000 to be used to complete their project.
ACTRA national president Ferne Downey (pictured) says the bill would allow for multi-year “income averaging,” which would benefit self-employed creators who have wildly fluctuating incomes.
Applicants have until Feb. 15, 2013 to submit their comedic or animated short projects for the $15,000 in prize money.
The submission window for the prize that offers filmmakers mentorship as well as attendance to next year’s Hot Docs Forum opens Oct. 19 and closes Nov. 23.
The week-long special programming is set to include musical performances by the likes of Glass Tiger and Blue Rodeo and appearances by former hosts and anchors, including Sandie Rinaldo (pictured).
